Our history

Built by the community it serves

Beletwein University opened in 2012 with two faculties and a single teaching block, established by local educators and business leaders who saw students leaving the Hiiraan region to study elsewhere — and often not returning. The first cohort numbered under two hundred.

Fourteen years on the university runs eight faculties and twenty-five departments, a library, laboratories for health and computer sciences, a teaching farm, and four research centres. Growth has followed need: programmes were added where employers, schools and health services said the shortage was greatest.
